Couponing is a very exhilarating experience for those people that are able to do it right. Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way to coupon. In this article I plan to illustrate the wrong way. When I say wrong way to coupon, I don't mean using 1-2 coupons that don't save you much money or using every coupon that you have in order to get maximum savings. What I mean is that there are laws protecting the misuse of coupons.

The Contract

Lets start with saying that when you use a coupon, you are agreeing to the terms that are spelled out on the front of the coupon. By using the coupon you are agreeing to a legally binding contract between you an the issuer. I am taking this statement from a Softsoap body wash coupon from the SmartSource coupon insert from 7/24/2011. “LIMIT ONE COUPON PER PURCHASE OF PRODUCT AND QUANTITY STATED. No more than four (4) coupons for the same product in the same transaction. Do not send this coupon to Colgate-Palmolive Company. Void if transferred, sold, auctioned, reproduced or altered from the original. You must pay any sales tax.”

The Moral and Legal Ramifications of Misuse and Abuse

When it comes to using coupons, there are a few things to remember. What I feel is the most important things are that coupons are there to help you save money on the products that you buy to take care of you and your family. The other thing is, that other people need those same products on the shelves as much as you do, so try not to take all of a particular item. Stores frown on taking all of one product from a shelf at once, or shelf clearing, and other stores will make you put the items back. So don't do it. That pretty much covers the moral part that is not illegal. Now for the traps that most beginners, and even some veterans, get into that are against the law.
